Homicide being investigated in North Naples

The death of a 48-year-old man in North Naples is now being investigated as a homicide, according to Collier County Sheriff's Office officials.

Joseph Warren Godcharles was found inside his condominium at 8234 Key Royal Circle on Wednesday morning. He was last seen Tuesday evening.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Karie Partington said detectives had recovered a weapon from inside his home, but would not say what kind.

Partington would not say if there was forced entry into the condo. Investigators have not yet determined if the killing was random or if Godcharles was targeted, she said.

Authorities said residents should remain vigil and call the Sheriff's Office to report any suspicious sightings.

Deputies were called at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday to 8234 Key Royal Circle in the Key Royal Condominiums of the Laurel Lakes community. When they arrived, they discovered the body of an adult male. The victim was identified as Joseph Warren Godcharles, 48, who lived at that address.
