— An arrest report released Wednesday shows a San Carlos Park woman killed in her home last week died from a deep cut to her throat.

Lee County sheriff's deputies said Debra Striano, 55, was killed during a botched robbery in her Three Oaks neighborhood home, where several items, including a fanny pack containing an estimated $1,000, were missing.

Striano's body was found in a bedroom by her live-in boyfriend, Russell Myers, at about 10:30 p.m. July 24. Crime scene investigators found blood on the drawers of nightstands and dressers, as well as clothing inside the drawers.

Unnamed witnesses told deputies that Dustin Jaye, a 23-year-old North Fort Myers resident, thought there was "a substantial amount of cash" at Striano's residence and planned to commit a robbery. Jaye was arrested Tuesday by sheriff's deputies. A Lee County judge denied him bond Wednesday morning.

Deputies said Jaye and his uncle, 42-year-old Billy Ray Retherford, robbed the home and killed Striano. Retherford remains at large.

After the killing, a witness saw Jaye with a serrated knife that appeared to have a broken blade, the arrest report said.

Deputies said Jaye asked several family members to lie to police about his whereabouts the night of Striano's death. Witnesses also told deputies that Jaye spoke to Retherford about gold taken from the scene.

Clothing Jaye might have worn at the scene, including a shoe that matched a bloody shoeprint found at Striano's home, were located in an air conditioning vent at Jaye's residence, the arrest report said.

Deputies also conducted a search of Retherford's North Fort Myers residence, where they discovered a fanny pack containing a bank deposit slip belonging to Myers, the report said. Bloody clothing also was recovered from the scene, deputies said.

Anyone who sees Retherford or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff's Office at (239) 477-1000, or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.
