Faith restored

I believe most concerned citizens would include among today's critical national problems the following: the economy — stalled; taxes — burdensome and inequitable; government spending — out of control; health-care reform — a travesty; public education — failed; illegal immigration — financial drain and social scourge; entitlements — unsustainable.

A few months ago I looked at that list and shuddered. Then I looked at some of the candidates who are running in this election cycle. Some insist they deserve yet another term of making things worse, or they point out that they have some kind of "political experience" and insider insight, and that's a very important consideration. I tell you, that was about as close as I've ever come to being hopeless about the future of this country.

Then I discovered a citizen who felt like me, but has the courage, intellect and gumption to throw himself into the action and work on real solutions. Byron Donalds has outlined sensible and straightforward plans to address the root of each of these problems. He is a citizen-candidate, not a protégé of a politician or political party, not a creature of special interests. When elected to represent the citizens of Southwest Florida's District 19 in the U.S. House, he will attack the problems that plague us and work to restore the vibrancy of our Constitutional Republic.

I am no longer hopeless. Donalds, a natural leader, has inspired me, and he has my vote.
