A Miami man was arrested Tuesday after Marco Island police say he shoved a hotel employee twice after he was caught burglarizing the employee's car.
Edgar Pena, 19, is facing a misdemeanor battery charge.
Just before 6 a.m., a loss prevention manager at the Crystal Shores Hotel was patrolling the grounds when he saw a man, later identified as Pena, with his arm in the open window of the manager's car attempting to open the door, according to an arrest report. The manager asked the man what he was doing and he said he was looking for his identification.
When the manager told Pena that it was not his car, Pena said that it was.
When the manager attempted to call police, Pena shoved him and fled, reports said. The manager made contact with Pena again near the hotel's elevator, at which point Pena shoved him again to get away.
Pena told Marco officers that he mistook the manager's car for his own, reports said. He said he had a confrontation with the loss prevention manager, but it was only verbal.
