300 pounds of granite falls on man in North Naples


North Naples fire officials said a 47-year-old man suffered serious injuries when 300 pounds of granite fell on his abdomen Thursday afternoon.

A service worker fell at about 1:30 p.m. while carrying a slab of granite into Vanderbilt Surf Colony III, causing the granite to land on his upper body, North Naples fire Capt. Charles Bacon said. The slab was removed from the man's abdomen before fire officials arrived on the scene, Bacon said. The man was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital.

A piece of granite was left in the condo complex's parking lot next to a van for Affordable Marble & Granite.


A trauma alert was issued for a North Naples man after 300 pounds of granite fell on him Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten said paramedics were on scene at Surf Colony Condominiums at 17 Bluebill Ave. Emergency personnel issued the trauma alert after granite fell on the man, according to information heard on a police scanner.

No further details were immediately available.
