Lee County sheriff's officials have officially linked Billy Ray Retherford Jr., the murder suspect killed by law enforcement Wednesday in North Fort Myers, to a Tuesday slaying hours before a U.S. Marshals task force team shot Retherford.

Deputies said they have physical evidence tying Retherford, a 42-year-old suspect in the July 24 killing of San Carlos Park resident Debra Striano, to the shooting death of 61-year-old Gregory Imhoff. Officials have said Imhoff was killed in a residence about two miles north of where a task force killed Retherford during a shootout.

Detectives believe Retherford is the only person responsible for Imhoff's death, deputies said.

Officials have said Retherford and his nephew, 23-year-old Dustin Jaye, killed Striano during a botched robbery. Jaye was arrested last week.
