The River Park Community Center pool opens in Naples Friday after months of construction and a few delays.

Construction on the $1.6 million project began a month late in February, and missed the June opening date. Some weather-related and permitting setbacks this summer further slowed the construction process, according to city officials.

Mayor John Sorey will welcome guests at a soft opening ceremony at 11 a.m.

A grand opening will be held in September when donors are back in Naples to celebrate.

The new facility features a covered porch, vending machines, locker rooms, a pool slide, play structure and six lap lanes instead of the four offered at the community’s old pool.
