An Immokalee man is accused of intentionally setting his home on fire Friday.
Markentoch Yrelus, 21, of the 3800 block of Justice Circle, faces a second degree arson charge after he admitted to Collier deputies he lit clothes on fire in the home’s bathroom, triggering a blaze that caused “severe” damage to the duplex home, according to an arrest report.
Yrelus was laughing at the scene and was initially uncooperative, investigators noted in the report. However he later described to them buying a lighter at a convenience store and sparking the fire, which fire marshals determined began on the bathroom vanity.
A family of six that lives in the adjacent home, including four children under the age of 13, was unharmed and their residence only had minor smoke damage, according to fire marshals.
Second degree arson is a felony charge.
