A Lee County commissioner trails early in the Lee Clerk of Courts primary election.

With a few precincts reporting, Linda Doggett, 50, has 24,266 votes - good for 71 percent - to 9,893 votes for Brian Bigelow, or 29 percent. Both are Republicans.

Bigelow, 48, was last elected to a four-year term in 2010. He was first elected to public office in 2006.

The Clerk of Courts office handles all official public records, including property records, court records and minutes of County Commission meetings. The office performs audits of Lee County offices to ensure tax dollars are spent properly.

The winner faces write-in candidate Harry Beeman in the Nov. 6 general election. Longtime Clerk of the Courts Charlie Green is vacating the office after 27 years.
