Two of the big winners from Tuesday’s Republican primary and a new, local link to the Mayo Clinic are featured on this week’s Naples Daily NewsMakers with Jeff Lytle program airing Sunday morning at 10 on ABC7.
Trey Radel, who swept a crowded U.S. House District 19 field, and Tim Nance, who beat 12-year incumbent Collier County Commissioner Jim Coletta, join Dr. Allen Weiss of NCH Healthcare System, who unveils local access to the Mayo Clinic’s medical expertise.
Here are excerpts:

Dr. Allen Weiss, CEO of NCH, on NewsMakers 8-19-12.
DR. ALLEN WEISS
Lytle: We’ve seen other partnerships or affiliations in Southwest Florida with local institutions and out-of-town enterprises. Duke even had a relationship with NCH Healthcare System. And there are some Boston-based medicine affiliates locally. How will this arrangement with Mayo Clinic be different, or will it be the same?
Weiss: This is going to be very, very different. Those relationships were good in their time. They weren’t as mature as this. We will have the ability to take a patient with a complex medical or surgical illness, take all their X-rays and laboratory data and clinical findings and package them electronically and get them to a Mayo Clinic expert, and within 48 hours get a second opinion with the patient never having to travel.
It’s a whole different level of affiliation than we’ve ever explored and ever tried in the past.
