In reply to “Disappointed Visitor” from Heights Pa.: As a former resident of Chicago for 20 years, I too have experience of these carriage rides, and suggest that she should have the rides in her home town so she can experience first hand the traffic congestion these rides would create on a two lane road with double yellow lines, not to mention the smell and mess these horses leave behind. The City Council represent the full time and winter residents of this island not the occasional visitors who demand such rides for the limited time they are here.
We have enough traffic to negotiate during season without getting stuck behind a horse drawn carriage at 8 MPH on a two lane road and Collier Boulevard would be a nightmare between January and May with most of the traffic exceeding the speed limit as it is.
So “disappointed visitor” let us know when you have arranged for the horse drawn carriage rides to start operating in your town.
