A Canadian-based builder is wasting little time creating its new development along Old 41 Road in Bonita Springs.

Work crews this week began clearing mainly wooded land for the new Bonita Isles community near Bernwood Parkway.

Minto Communities, which in July announced plans for the large Sabal Bay development in East Naples, on Aug. 1 closed on 85 acres so it can build 220 single-family homes and paired villas. The purchase price was $4.25 million.

"This is going to be one of the few new home opportunities within the last five years in the Bonita area, at least west of I-75," Bill Bullock, a vice president for Minto in Florida, told the Daily News earlier this month. "All the other developments are farther out east."

Bonita Isles will be a gated community with two large lakes and preserves.
