A Lehigh Acres man was taken to jail Thursday after leading Collier County sheriff's deputies on a chase through Golden Gate.

Around 6:30 p.m., deputies in an unmarked patrol car noticed a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo with illegally tinted windows. When they flashed their lights and tried to pull the car over, the driver sped away, according to an arrest report.

The chase started at Green Boulevard and Whistlers Green Circle and reached speeds of up to 75 mph. It ended when the car crashed into a vehicle towing a trailer at 50th Terrace Southwest and Coronado Parkway, the report said.

No one was injured, but a juvenile passenger was found in the backseat. Gerald Colby James, 29, faces charges of fleeing law enforcement at high speed, driving while license suspended and neglect of child without great bodily harm.
