TALLAHASSEE — Florida child advocates are launching a literacy program to make sure children are reading at grade level by third grade.
Gov. Rick Scott and First Lady Ann Scott will also read a book to a group of children as part of Tuesday's event at a Tallahassee library.
The ReadingPals program will focus on teaching young children to become proficient readers early on so that they can better understand curriculum in all subjects in future years.
The Children's Movement of Florida is also sponsoring the program.
Chair Dave Lawrence says the most extraordinary return on education investment occurs in the earliest years.
Publix Super Markets Charities President Carol Barnett will also present a check to fund the program.
