Tropical Storm Isaac just can't seem to get itself together.
Isaac was in the Caribbean, south of Puerto Rico Thursday evening with maximum winds of 45 mph.
The Hurricane Hunter aircraft went into the storm and found that the 45 mph winds were right at the surface. As readings were taken from other levels higher in the storm, the winds were very light, and the center not well defined.
The storm is in the very warm waters of the Caribbean Sea and there is light wind shear above it. With the light shear, the storm should be able to grow vertically within the next 12 to 24 hours to begin strengthening.
Isaac is expected to become a healthy tropical storm as it nears Haiti and Cuba by Saturday. It is moving west-northwest at 16 mph.
It still looks like we will have a very close call with a Category 1 hurricane on Monday. ABC7's in house forecast model, Futurecast, places the storm about 75 to 100 miles offshore of Southwest Florida by 8 a.m. Monday.
This track may change a bit, but this is a call to prepare yourself, family and property.
