A Fort Myers man has been linked to a second robbery of a taxi cab driver.
Following Tuesday's robbery arrest of Ruben David Hernandez, a detective noticed many similarities between Hernandez and one of the suspects involved in another robbery of a taxi driver that occurred in July. The physical build, hair style, race, age and facial hair matched the description provided by that victim. In addition, the crime was committed against a taxi driver and involved choking and striking the driver from behind while demanding money. Because of these similarities, a photo lineup was created which contained a photo of Hernandez.
Detectives met with the victim from the July robbery after the arrest of Hernandez. The victim said he remembered what one of the suspects looked like and that he would be able to identify him if he saw him again. The victim positively identified Hernandez Jr., 32, as the man that beat him, threatened him, and robbed him of his money and car keys on July 28.
In the July robbery, the victim picked up two male passengers who were waiting in front of a vacant residence at 122 Alabama Road, Lehigh Acres. At about 12:35 a.m., the driver was asked to stop at another residence at which time one of the passengers placed the victim in a choke hold from behind while the other passenger struck him multiple times in the face while demanding money and stating he was armed with a gun. The victim nearly lost consciousness and the suspects were able to obtain an undisclosed amount of cash and the car keys from the victim before fleeing on foot
Hernandez has been charged with robbery for the July 28 incident. Detectives are still looking for the second person involved in this robbery

A Lee County man is accused of trying to rob a taxi driver early Tuesday in Bonita Springs.
Deputies said Ruben Hernandez called a taxi to the Sunoco gas station at Bonita Beach Road and U.S. 41 and asked to be taken to Imperial Street. After leading the driver down several back roads, Hernandez asked to stop on Orange Court Drive, then asked if the driver could break a $100 bill.
When the driver said he did not have change, Hernandez put him in a headlock and demanded all his money, officials said. The driver was able to wiggle free, at which point Hernandez ran out of the cab, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The driver reported the attempted robbery around 4:30 a.m., and deputies later found Hernandez in the area. Hernandez, 32, of the 5400 block of Seventh Avenue, Fort Myers, faces a charge of attempted robbery without a weapon.
