What to watch for: Riverdale wants a low-scoring game, even though it has fire power on offense. Lely thinks it will be a high-scoring game unless it can win the defensive battle. Lely's offensive line will determine how well its offense executes.

— The Lely High School football team gets it chance to give coach Stacey Stewart his first regular-season win when it travels to Riverdale on Friday night.

Stewart, former Lely star quarterback in the mid-1980s, took over the football program in May. After winning its preseason Kickoff Classic over Evangelical Christian last week, he is ready to see how far his team has come since spring.

"Whoever wins the line of scrimmage wins the game," Stewart said. "We will need to play very good defense, but the offensive line will determine how well our offense does."

Riverdale won its preseason game against East Lee County, without senior running back Byron Dean.

"He's our horse at 6-2, 215 pounds," third-year coach Roy Hinson said.

However, sophomore running back Van Edwards filled in admirably, rushing for 200 yards.

"Our quarterback, Anthony Snyder, has a cannon and very good receivers in Kendall Beck and Ryan Pulley, but we want to be more than one dimensional," Hinson said.

He expects a low-scoring game, with his offensive line also making the difference.

Stewart thinks it could be a high-scoring game, noting both teams have outstanding offensive potential.
