Detectives: Animal excrement smeared on hood of student's car

Lee County detectives are investigating a case of criminal mischief that left a woman's car smeared with animal excrement in an Estero parking lot.

The woman, an 18-year-old student at Florida Gulf Coast University, told deputies she parked her car in the parking lot in Coconut Point Mall around 12:45 p.m. Sunday while she was at work. When she returned to her car around 6:15 p.m., the front hood was smeared with animal feces, according to an incident report.

The woman said she took the car through a carwash and tried to scrub it off, but the car remained stained. Deputies estimated the damage at $500.

The student said she had been fighting with another student who knew where she worked and what her car looked like. Detectives are waiting on surveillance footage that could help them identify a suspect.
