PrepZone: Estero's Sommer honored by NHSACA, Florida Dairy Farmers

Estero High School athletic director and cross country coach Jeff Sommer has received a pair of honors.

Sommer has been named a National Coach/AD of the Year Finalist by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. Finalists will be honored at a banquet in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday, June 26.

Sommer, whose girls team won its third straight state title, also was named the 2012 Florida Dairy Farmers Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year. Sommer, the Class 3A Coach of the Year, finished with 74 points to win the overall award against 4A winner Trish Butler of St. Thomas Aquinas, 2A winner Tony Ryan of Jacksonville-Bolles, and 1A winner Edwin McTureous of Gainesville-Oak Hall.

The Dairy Farmers also released their class-by-class awards in football. Naples High's Bill Kramer was second in 6A coach of the year voting, and running back Manny Morgan was third in the 6A player of the year voting.
