— An East Naples man is accused of acting like a doctor and phoning in eight fraudulent prescriptions since last fall.

An employee at a pharmacy on the 400 block of U.S. 41 North said a man called Dec. 7, to turn in a prescription for patient Bower James Thomas, 35. After noticing a discrepancy in the prescription, the employee called the doctor back, only to learn the doctor had not been the one making the call, an arrest report said.

A Naples police detective learned eight prescriptions of Clonazepam, Alprazolam and Lortab had been filled for Thomas since August 2011, reports said. The doctor said Thomas had not been a patient since October 2011.

Thomas, of the 2400 block of Outrigger Lane, was arrested Thursday by Naples police in front of the pharmacy. He faces a felony charge of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.
