NAPLES — A Naples man accused of crashing into two teens riding ATVs in April was released from jail, following his arrest Friday.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office announced in July that Mark Tirado, 58, of the 1400 block of Bembury Drive, would face DUI charges in the Golden Gate Estates crash, which injured 14-year-old Raul San Pedro and his passenger on the ATV, 16-year-old Andrew Fernando Garcia.
It was unclear Saturday why there was a delay between announcing the charges during the summer and Tirado's arrest at his home Friday on a warrant. The Collier County Sheriff's Office couldn't immediately provide an explanation Saturday, but said it would be able to provide one Monday.
Tirado faces two felony counts of DUI with serious injury and three additional misdemeanor DUI charges.
San Pedro was driving the ATV east on 43rd Avenue N.E., east of Everglades Boulevard, alongside another ATV just after 4:30 p.m. on April 2.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that an eastbound 2002 Acura driven by Tirado hit the back of the ATV, causing it to roll over and eject the teens.
Both boys were hospitalized at the time, with San Pedro receiving the brunt of the injuries. He was flown to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition on that day.
Authorities said the teens were riding the ATV on the road, which state law prohibits.
Tirado was released from the Collier County jail on a $14,000 bond.
