An Immokalee man is accused of trying to rob a man early Sunday, then beating him when he didn't have any money.

The victim told Collier deputies he was walking home from the bars just before 3 a.m. when Juan Jenaro Diego, 27, approached him and demanded money. When the victim said he did not have any money, Diego punched him repeatedly in the face, according to an arrest report.

Deputies found the victim "severely beaten and bleeding profusely from the facial area" in front of the Oak Haven Apartment Complex at 580 Oakhaven Circle, reports said. Deputies then saw Diego running from the area and into his apartment.

Other people in the apartment let the deputies inside, and Diego was found hiding by his bed inside a rear bedroom. He had bloody knuckles and blood on his shirt, according to reports.

Diego faces charges of unarmed robbery and battery.
