— Ke’jhan Feagin hit a 3-pointer as time expired Wednesday in the City of Palms Classic quarterfinals to lift Long Beach (Calif.) Poly over Omaha (Neb.) Central, 52-49.

“It was one of the highlights of the day,” said Feagin, a 5-foot-10 sophomore guard. “That’s all due to my teammates looking at me and not being robots and looking for the open play.”

Long Beach Poly’s dramatic victory ended Omaha Central’s 41-game win streak, which was tied for the Nebraska state record.

“When we got invited to something like this we felt that if we want to prove ourselves on a national level, we had to get outside of Nebraska and see what we can do against some other big-time programs,” Omaha Central coach Eric Behrens said. “What better opportunities are there? I wouldn’t do it any other way.”

Long Beach Poly’s Jordan Bell, a Oregon recruit, had a team-high 17 points and eight blocks — two shy of setting the individual tournament single-game record. The Jackrabbits, who advance to Friday night’s semifinals, are ranked No. 2 in the nation by MaxPreps.com, and No. 8 by ESPN and USA Today.

“I told our kids that this is probably going to be a reflection of our sectional playoffs and our state playoffs,” Long Beach Poly head coach Sharrief Metoyer said. “Teams are not going to give up. In the end, you just got to be one point better and you advance.”

Senior forward Akoy Agau, a Louisville recruit, and senior guard Tra-Deon Hollins led Omaha Central in scoring with 13 each.
