City of Palms prep basketball: Highland (Utah) Lone Peak rolls over Jackson (Miss.) Callaway

Highland (Utah) Lone Peak, ranked No. 4 in the nation by ESPN, never trailed in its 60-42 victory over Jackson (Miss.) Callaway.

Senior center Eric Mika, who signed with Brigham Young University, led Lone Peak in scoring with 22. The 6-foot-10 Mika was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field. Mika made his presence felt under the rim by grabbing six rebounds and making several dunks.

“When he really gets his balance, he’s so strong,” Lone Peak head coach Quincy Lewis said. “He’s hard to handle.

Lone Peak will test Chester (Pa.) and its 61-game win streak today at 5:15 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

Callway’s senior power forward TreShawn Bolden squared off against Mika under the rim and came away with eight rebounds.

Senior guard Nick Emery, also a BYU recruit, was second in scoring for Lone Peak. Emery scored 19 points with five of his baskets coming from 3-point land.

Callaway’s sophomore guard Malik Newman, HoopScoop’s No. 1 sophomore prospect, led the Chargers in scoring with 17.
