Naples police have identified an East Naples man they say robbed a Naples Italian ice shop in August with a pellet gun that looked like a submachine gun.
Shawndell "KT" Deandre McCann, 20, will be taken to the Naples Jail Center after he is released from jail in Lee County, according to police.
McCann is accused of robbing Rita's Italian Ice, 2045 U.S. 41 N., on Aug. 23. Police said McCann covered his face with a ski mask, entered the store with a gun and demanded the employees open a safe and fill his bag with money.
McCann was acquainted with one of the employees, said police spokesman Lt. John Barkley. Investigators said McCann sent and received text messages with others planning the robbery, including buying a pellet gun that looked like a submachine gun. Detectives also said McCann matched physical characteristics of the robber as seen in surveillance images.
McCann, of the 200 block of Manor Boulevard, is named on a warrant for armed robbery. He is currently in jail in Lee County on an unrelated charge of failure to appear.
