Weekend weather: Cold front ushers in winter

Winter officially began at 6:12 a.m. today, and right on cue a strong cold front is marching its way across Southwest Florida, bringing with it a Christmas chill for the upcoming weekend.

Despite the sunshine, temperatures will struggle to reach 70 degrees today, while many locations will hover in the middle to upper 60s. On top of that, winds will be whipping out of the northwest from 15 to 20 mph, making it feel even cooler than that, NBC2 reports.

Tonight, temperatures will plummet into the low 40s in town with middle to upper 30s across our inland and northern communities.
