Men's basketball: Cold-shooting FGCU falls at Maine

Justin Edwards scored a game-high 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help Maine post an 84-78 home win over Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday.

The Black Bears capitalized on a poor shooting performance in the first half by the Eagles in racing out to a 37-27 halftime advantage. The Eagles scored the first 11 points of the second half to grab a short-lived 38-37 lead, but Maine responded with a 7-0 run of its own and never trailed again.

Alasdair Fraser added 21 points and Jon Mesghna 11 for the winners.

The Eagles put four players in double figures, led by Sherwood Brown's 17 points. Brett Comer added 14 points and a game-high eight assists for FGCU.

FGCU struggled from 3-point range all afternoon, connecting on just 6 of 29 attempts from beyond the arc.

FGCU (8-5) opens Atlantic Sun competition Dec. 31 with a game at Kennesaw State.
