It's Your Business: Nominations sought for FGCU business award

The Small Business Development Center at Florida Gulf Coast University will begin accepting applications Feb. 1 for the 2013 Distinguished Entrepreneur Award.

The award honors a small to mid-sized Southwest Florida business for the local business community to celebrate its achievements. Earlier this year, entrepreneur and chocolatier Norman Love of Norman Love Confections was named the first Distinguished Entrepreneur Award recipient.

The center will accept applications from Feb. 1 through March 15.

The 2013 award will be presented during a May 22 dinner in the ballroom at FGCU's Cohen Center. Cost is $100 to attend. Information: www.sbdcawards.com and 239-745-3705

Adams Blankenship to speak at luncheon

Allison Adams Blankenship will discuss how to motivate, persuade and communicate under pressure at a luncheon next year.

She will address the Florida Public Relations Association's Southwest Florida chapter from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater, 1380 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers.

Cost is $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers and $10 for students with advance reservations. Walk-ins are an additional $5. Reservations: www.fpraswfl.org

Naples airport workers recognized

The Naples Airport Authority has honored Michelle Bernier, a customer service representative, as employee of the year and selected Scott Meyer, Joe Purcell and Jack Tuers to receive Above and Beyond Awards.

Bernier, who joined the Airport Authority in 2000, was recognized for her knowledge and outstanding skills in working with customers. Customer service representatives' work includes dispatching aircraft fuel orders and coordinating catering requests.

The four are among the 70 full-time employees of the Naples Airport Authority.

Cashmere company opens in Naples

Contemporary cashmere company Qi New York is opening its first retail location in Naples at The Mercato in North Naples.

The 800-square-foot store features an industrial décor. Qi is known for its use of the finest Inner Mongolian cashmere. The store will host a full range of ready-to-wear and home products from Qi Home, Qi New York, and their sister line, Ainsley.
