Lee County sheriff’s detectives arrested a Lehigh Acres man Monday who they say stole a gold chain from a Fort Myers jewelry store last week.
Richard Sprague, 35, is facing charges of grand theft, dealing in stolen property and defrauding a pawn broker.
Authorities say Sprague approached a sales employee at a Dunkin’s Diamonds at 11500 S. Cleveland Ave. on Dec. 18, and asked to see a gold necklace. When the employee handed over the $10,000 yellow gold rope chain, Sprague ran off with it, fled in a waiting vehicle and sold the chain to a local pawn shop, authorities say.
Detectives were able to identify and arrest Sprague after developing leads and receiving Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers tips.
