NAPLES — The Florida Fire Juniors program showed its a winner off the soccer pitch as well on Dec 15. The organization distributed 200 toys, 40 soccer balls, a huge bag of clothing, household items (including sheets, blankets, bathrobes, personal care items, and hair care), gift cards totaling over $250, jewelry, movies, books and a bike to the Naples Center for Abused Women and Children.
Coaches Rob Anderson and Dwane Martin from the U11 girls White team, John Harris (parent) with his son, Jack from the U14 boys Select and daughter, Remey, on U11 girls Red team delivered the gifts to Options Thrift Store, benefiting the Naples Center for Abused Women and Children.
Owen and Hadley Anderson, Bailey Martin, and Jack and Remey helped unload the truck of gifts. With the club setting up drop-offs at training site locations, the drive got off to a slow start, deterred by two canceled/rained out practices.
"That didn't deter us," said Dwight Morgan, administrative director for the FFJ. "Many parents eventually came by the Anderson family home to drop off several items to contribute to this great cause."
Coach Jim Snyder of the U11 girls red brought some gifts on the morning of Dec. 15 and stayed to help load the truck, taking pictures along the way. Henk Damons, a parent of members of the U13 boys Select and U14 boys Select dropped off more than 40 toys and stayed to help pump up the 40 soccer balls given out.
"It was a fantastic group effort," Morgan said "We appreciate all the help and support from all of our Florida Fire Juniors families and look forward to helping again next year."
