NAPLES — Collier County made it 5-for-5 in the My Shower Door Challenge Cup on Saturday at The Club at Renaissance in Fort Myers.
Collier defeated Lee County's 12 club professionals, 42.5-29.5.
"I think we have more depth than they do," said LaPlaya's Scott Richardson, who was the Collier team captain. "A couple of their top players beat a couple of our top players."
After the morning alternate shot, the two teams were tied with nine points apiece in the Ryder Cup-style format. But Collier dominated the rest of the way, winning better ball, 12-6, and singles, 21.5-14.5.
"It was a lot of fun," Richardson said. "Obviously there were a lot of good matches. ... I thought the guys on our team played really well."
Justin Bertsch of Hideout and John Lee of Imperial led Collier with 7 1/2 points each (teams or players earned one point for winning the front nine, one for the back nine, and one for overall score). Larry Gantzer of Grey Oaks, Dennis Meyer of Dennis Meyer's Golf Schools, and John Calabria of Fiddler's Creek all had seven apiece.
Jay Westerlund, who was the Lee co-captain along with David Kent, led all players with 8 1/2 points. Westerlund and Kent got some revenge on Richardson, who had beaten them last year. The two beat Richardson and Durland, 2.5-0.5, in better ball, and each won 3-0 in singles.
"They thumped us pretty good," Richardson said.
