An East Naples man arrested on a DUI charge after authorities say he backed into an ambulance Tuesday night at a gas station.

At 8:11 p.m., a Collier County sheriff's deputy was standing in the doorway of an ambulance in the parking lot of Hess Express, 1600 Airport-Pulling Road, when a pickup began to back into it. The truck hit the ambulance, pushing the deputy inside the ambulance, according to an arrest report.

The truck's driver tried to drive away, but the deputy was able to stop it in the parking lot, reports said. The driver, identified as Ricardo Trejo, 47, smelled of alcohol and was slurring his words, according to a deputy's report.

Trejo, of the 1300 block of Shadowlawn Drive, faces one charge of DUI and two counts of DUI damage to property or person. A report said he declined to perform field sobriety exercises.
