Angry at being called "a drunk," an East Naples man is accused of child abuse after witnesses said he thrust a vomit-covered mop at a 16-year-old girl.
Nathan Victor Howey, 37, whose address is redacted in an arrest report because the victim is a minor, was arrested Thursday at his home by Collier County sheriff's deputies.
The victim and two witnesses told investigators Howey had been living with the family for six months and was verbally abusive when intoxicated, according to an arrest report. The day of his arrest, they said, Howey had been drinking too much and vomited on the floor in the living room.
His niece called him a drunk, which angered Howey, the report noted. As he was cleaning his vomit with a mop, hit her with it in the stomach.
Howey told deputies the girls in the home were upset with him because he called them fat, but denied hitting anyone with a mop.
Howey faces a felony charge of child abuse without great harm.
