— After bear hugging a deputy for pepper spraying her boyfriend, a Golden Gate woman was also sprayed and arrested outside of the local night club Loft 59, deputies say.

Crystal O’Connell, 27, of the 4600 block of 19th Place Southwest, was arrested Saturday by Collier deputies at the 2000 block of U.S. 41.

According to an arrest report, employees of Loft 59 told deputies that O’Connell’s boyfriend was belligerent — yelling and swearing.

Deputies said that after speaking with the employees of the night club they did not wish to press charges they just wanted him and O’Connell off the property.

O’Connell agreed and told deputies that she and her boyfriend were waiting for a cab.

Although O’Connell’s boyfriend was advised that no one was pressing charges against him he continued to yell obscenities at the deputies even as he entered the cab, according to reports.

Deputies said the couple’s behavior was so unruly that the cab driver refused to transport them.

They were then asked to exit the cab several times but refused which resulted in deputies having to spray O’Connell’s boyfriend with pepper spray to get him out of the car and handcuffed, according to reports.

O’Connell then bear hugged the deputy who was placing her boyfriend in handcuffs, deputies said.

Due to O’Connell’s behavior, she was also pepper sprayed and handcuffed.

O’Connell faces charges of battery on law enforcement officer, resisting officer with violence and trespassing an occupied dwelling. The report did not indicate any charges against the boyfriend.
