An East Naples man is accused of entering a woman’s apartment and falsely claiming to be a maintenance man checking for a leak.
Matthew Kennedy, 36, of the 2000 block of River Reach Drive, was arrested Friday by Collier deputies at the River Reach apartments.
According to an arrest report, the victim returned home from work and noticed her apartment door was open and as she entered her apartment she saw a flashlight illuminating in her bedroom.
When the victim looked in her room, she told deputies she saw Kennedy, who told her he was the building maintenance man and was looking for water leaks.
The victim also told deputies that she had recognized Kennedy as a maintenance man at the apartment complex but became suspicious because there was no work order.
According to reports, the victim told Kennedy to go to the apartment upstairs where he had said there were leaks but he refused and fled the scene quickly.
The victim then spoke with the manager of the apartment complex, who told her Kennedy no longer worked as a maintenance man there and there had been no work orders requested for her apartment.
Kennedy was located at home and arrested on a charge of burglary.
