MARCO ISLAND — A 34-year-old Marco Island man was found dead in his home and the police are now conducting a death investigation.
Marco Police found John Armstrong after receiving a call on Saturday night from a family member who had not heard from him in a few days.
The police made a welfare check at his home on the 1300 block of Sixth Avenue around 6 p.m. Armstrong was found dead in the master bedroom.
Armstrong was a former member of the Marco Island Fire Rescue Department, where he held the position of Fire Inspector. The investigation into cause and manner of death continues, no further incident or case information is available at this time.
Police and medical examiner officials are investigating the cause of death. Marco Island police Capt. Dave Baer declined to comment Sunday morning when asked whether foul play was involved.

To the Eagle: Why does every other newspaper and tv station headline the news as Former Marco Fire Department Fire Inspector found dead. This should be headline news. As far as I know he was with the department as recent as last year it's not like he worked there years ago.
A man who served the community as an employee of the Marco Fire Dept. in the City of Marco Island should be headline news along with a few words from the Chief.
Hmmmm

To the Armstrong family: My Condolences to the family. I don't know him personally but I do know he held one of the most important jobs one could have. As a parent my heart goes out to you at this very sad time.
God bless

John worked for the Fire Department as recently as a few weeks ago, I believe. He was a decent guy, and this is such a shame - especially for someone who was only 34...my prayers are with his family

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Armstrong family. This is such a devastating loss, not only to Marco Island, but to the North Palm Beach Fire Department as well. Junior, you are forever in our hearts and will truly be missed.
