2 Naples motorcyclists injured Friday in alcohol-related crash, FHP reports

Two Naples men remain in critical condition today after they were injured in an alcohol-related motorcycle crash Friday night in Golden Gate Estates, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Joseph Ocallaghan, 33, and Justin Petrucelli, 25, remain hospitalized after being airlifted Friday to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. Both men were ejected from their Harley-Davidson motorcycles in a crash that occurred just after 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of 20th Avenue Northeast and Desoto Boulevard in the Estates, FHP reports show.

Ocallaghan was traveling west on 20th Avenue Northeast when his motorcycle struck the rear of Petrucelli’s motorcycle, which he failed to notice had stopped facing west on 20th Avenue Northeast. Ocallaghan was distracted by a group of people at a residence attempting to get his attention, reports show.

The FHP report indicates both men had been drinking prior to the crash. Petrucelli was wearing a helmet, but it is unclear if Ocallaghan was wearing one, reports show.

Charges are pending further investigation, reports show.
