Letter of the day: Thanks to you ...

Whether you donated food items for holiday dinners; gifts for Chanukah, Kwanza or Christmas; gasoline and phone cards; or your time, talent and energy, the participants, staff and volunteers at The Shelter for Abused Women & Children of Collier County thank you for making miracles happen this holiday season!

Your support allowed us to provide a safe and peaceful holiday for residents in our Beau Venturi Home emergency safe-haven and four transitional living cottages, as well as the children, women and men participating in our Naples and Immokalee Outreach programs. In total, you helped The Shelter provide a happy holiday to more than 700 program participants!

As we move into 2012, we send each of you blessings of gratitude and well wishes for a safe, healthy, happy and peaceful New Year!

To Prevent. To Protect. To Prevail. Our promise to you.

Collier Child Care ResourcesThe term "outpouring from the community" has taken on a far deeper meaning. Please let me tell you what happened.

You see, right after Thanksgiving, wreaths and trees decorated with ornaments made by nearly 200 children in our three child care programs at Collier Child Care Resources were placed at various businesses in the community. We conduct the "Giving Tree" program each year for many of the children in our programs from lower-income families who might not be able to provide much in terms of toys and books for their families during the holiday, especially during these hard economic times.

We were beginning to wonder if anyone would notice the trees and wreaths in the salons, stores, and restaurants, during the hustle and bustle of the holidays. We worried that we might not get enough gifts for the children.

Here is where the "outpouring from the community" comes in. The toys and books for the children started pouring in faster than our staff could handle them. Our office space became an obstacle course. It was a perfect holiday miracle!

We would like to thank and mention the businesses that graciously participated: Curves, Planet Hair, James Michael Salon & Spa, Publix in Bonita Springs, ACE Hardware (next to Wynn's Market), two Naples Applebee's restaurant locations, Salon Delphine and Karen of NY.

We would also like to thank the entire community for caring so much.
