Letter: Climate confusion

Letter writer Robert Dimond reflects the "let's blame Republicans" for everything gone wrong, but fails to recognize that a global majority and modern scientists think the climate warming and cooling cycles are not impacted as much by man, but more by natural causes.

Climate warming cycles have occurred for thousands of years with far fewer humans. The small amount of warming seen in the 1980s and 1990s were not man-made. Scientists have advanced theories that solar eruptions, tidal activity, volcanic eruptions, and many other natural factors have a major impact on our climate.

However, Republican opposition to expensive wasteful environmental programs is valid, and in agreement with most independent voters. Mankind cannot control the climate. Volcano eruptions may pollute the atmosphere equal to years of carbon pollution by burning plants, coal or forest fires. There was even a serious study paid for by taxpayers that sheep flatulence was a major polluter.

A waste of money? You decide.

Environmentalists impede progress while being subsidized by taxpayers. Environmentalists promote job loss and inhibit energy producing progress. Remember taxpayer unauthorized investment Solyndra? Solar energy and wind will never support a necessary strong military.

Tree huggers have never understood that 90 percent of all trees harvested in the U.S. are replanted. Do we ignore the advent of catalytic converters that solved many pollution problems emitted by vehicles?

True environmental solutions come from American technology. That technology results from free enterprise, investment capital from the private sector, not the government.
