Letter: Follow the money

My wife and I own a condo and live off Radio Road.

Hans Meier is correct in his letter "Too much green." We did receive a letter from the county essentially saying if we vote to approve a loan, the project to plant trees and other plants in the median on Radio Road and Santa Barbara Boulevard will begin possibly this year instead of a few more years from now.

I think if you do a little more research, you will find that the communities along Radio Road and Santa Barbara are being assessed more in the real estate taxes to pay for this project. In simple terms, and as an example, instead of my taxes being $1,000 a year, I am paying $1,020 — the extra $20 going toward this project.

I think if you research this, you will find that only people who own property on Radio Road and Santa Barbara Boulevard are paying this extra assessment. This special assessment came about a couple of years ago.

Bottom line is, if you do not live on Radio or Santa Barbara, you are not paying for this project.
