The upcoming weekend celebration of the achievements and contributions of Myra Janco Daniels, who has retired as the founding CEO of the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts, is aptly named.
Thank You Myra Days — including a big concert at The Phil on Saturday night and a full day of free open-house activities there from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. — extend an opportunity for the community to give Daniels her due.
She surely has given the community all her best efforts for the past 30 years, and look what we have to show for it.
We have a beautiful arts complex in Pelican Bay. We have an acclaimed symphony orchestra. We have music programs for youth and families. We have continuing education on subjects beyond music for adults.
We have an enriched quality of life.
We have an economic engine.
We have Myra Daniels to thank.
Daniels has taught us a great deal. She taught us how to aim high. She taught us the importance of building a sustainable business plan in advance. She has taught us of the importance of quality. She has taught us the importance of never resting on laurels and always planning the next move.
Daniels has succeeded here, it is important to note, by starting from scratch.
That, and her relentless determination, makes her a one-of-a-kind pioneer.
She has earned a niche among our community's champions who use their time and talents to make a difference and build a lasting legacy for others to enjoy and respect.
Those who follow will have a distinct advantage. She has shown them how it's done.
