Letter to the Editor: Questions

When a citizen takes his or her time to come and wait to speak at a community forum should they receive a response or at minimum the courtesy of direction? Why do certain subjects get discussed at length and while others are treated like a lepers when they ask a question of their elected leaders?

We have spent over $120,000 in consulting fees for the Utility Board and counsel review of our rate structure. Why not charge every condo and homeowner the same debt and maintenance fee and then charge everyone the same for every gallon used? This is fair to all and prevents a war between our citizens.

Why when approximately 90 percent of the citizen’s year in and year out respond to their civic association survey that they do not want a change in density, do we in the dead of summer with no one here change the law? Please respond to the following facts:

1. Do we need new blood on our planning board?

2. Do we need more referendums on major long term planning changes to our community?

3. Are we a residential community or convention destination community going forward?

Convention destination with eyes on a casino destination! We need to get our act together! What this Island needs are people who will champion a plan for our future - not complain about street lights already in progress!
