Five Estero High School students were caught smoking marijuana in the school parking lot during class hours Wednesday.
The school resource officer, a Lee County sheriffs' deputy, reported that just before 7:30 a.m., Kyle Alexandre Yzaguirre and four other students were spotted in a black Jeep in the parking lot at Estero High School, 21900 River Ranch Road. He says he approached the vehicle because class began at 7:15 a.m.
Yzaguirre was in the driver's seat and rolled the window down when the deputy confronted him. A large amount of marijuana smoke came out, prompting the deputy to ask who was in possession of the marijuana. One of the minors with Yzaguirre handed him a rolled marijuana cigarette.
Arrest reports say the students did not arrive to school together in the Jeep, but rather skipped class and got together to smoke.
All five students were transported to the Lee County Jail without incident. Yzaguirre 18, of the 18500 block of Matanzas Road, San Carlos Park, was the only student old enough to be considered an adult. He was arrested at the school and is facing charges of possessing marijuana.
