Lee County jail inmate says another inmate sexually assaulted him

A Lee County Jail inmate reported Wednesday that he was sexually assaulted.

During a routine medical examination, the victim, an inmate reported to a doctor that he had been sexually assaulted earlier in the week.

The victim told deputies that on Monday, another inmate approached him and asked if he was gay. The victim responded that he was. That night, after lights out, the victim woke to find the inmate standing next to his bunk trying to perform oral sex on him while gesturing for the victim to remain quiet.

After he forced the victim to do so, he grabbed the victim by the throat, pulled him off his bunk, and sexually assaulted him, a Lee incident report said. Afterward the victim returned to his own bunk.

The victim did not resist or scream in fear for his safety, which is why he did not report the crime earlier, the report stated. Since the inmate has been moved, the victim said he felt comfortable enough to confide in the doctor during his exam.

An investigation into the reported assault is ongoing.
