Lee deputies say they arrested a Fort Myers man for his involvement in a December shooting over a dispute regarding ATVs.
Edwin Garcia, 39, of the 1700 block of Palm Drive, was arrested Thursday and is facing charges of carrying a concealed firearm, discharging a firearm in public, and improper exhibit of a firearm.
Omar Mercado Aguilar, 23, of the 5500 block of Second Avenue, Fort Myers, was arrested on December 7, and is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim, Carl Watts, 25, told deputies he had left two all-terrain vehicles with Garcia for repair. On December 6, he went to Garcia's home to check on the progress of the repairs and discovered parts were missing from his vehicles. He became upset and an argument ensued. He told Garcia he would be back to get his ATVs, reports said.
When watts returned on December 7, with a friend, Aguilar was there with his brother and Garcia. Reports say a brief discussion escalated into an argument which resulted in gunfire.
According to reports, Aguilar and Garcia pulled firearms from their waistbands and began firing at Watts. Watts attempted to flee, but was forced to return fire as he was running. He struck Garcia in the leg, reports said.
When deputies arrived, reports say, Watts flagged them down and presented them with his concealed weapons permit and allowed them to disarm him.
A search warrant for the Palms Drive home revealed two firearms with indications of recently being fired.
Garcia's arrest was anticipated pending his release from the hospital.
