$400,000 boat reported stolen in Lee County

A $400,000 boat was stolen Saturday from a dock slip in Fort Myers.

The boat's owner, David Galloway, told deputies his boat was removed from its dock slip on the 15900 block of Catalpa Cove Drive. He last saw the "Gypsy Fiddler," a Grady 2008 white 36-foot vessel, tied to the dock slip on Saturday at 6 p.m. He returned Sunday at 10 a.m. to discover it was missing.

The thieves disconnected the shore power cables from the power box mounted to the dock and also took the mooring lines to the vessel, a Lee County sheriff's report said.

A neighbor told deputies he heard motors of a vessel leaving the canal for open water around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. He could see a navigation light moving down the canal from where Galloway's boat was docked, however, he could not make out the vessel type or its occupants, according to reports.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Lee County marine units have been alerted of the theft.

According to reports, the twin outboard Yamaha motors are worth approximately $20,000 each. The entire boat is valued at $400,000.
