Joseph A. Bawduniak, Naples
Recently, I reviewed the FDOT Statewide Aviation Economic Impact Study done several months ago. The methodology for this study was prescribed by the FAA and is applied on a national basis.
Following are some key elements from the study related to our Naples Airport (APF); figures are rounded off:
1. Direct financial impact: $89 million (from tenants, businesses and construction projects).
2. Indirect financial impact: $62 million (spending from visitors who arrive by general aviation).
3. Multiplier, additional impact: $120 million (multiplier is based on a federal model that shows how the sum of direct and indirect impacts continue to recirculate through the local economy).
These figures appear to be similar to the study done around 1997 and represent an amazing positive financial impact on our economy. The current report can be reviewed at www.dot.state.fl.us/aviation/economicimpact.shtm.
Those who support our local airport are to be applauded.
Unfortunately, certain citizens refuse to accept the fact that federal regulations have precedence, waste their supporters money and expect unrealistic political action on the local scene.
Another perspective on our airport activity is we are hearing the sound of money flow into our community!
The numbers above are from the study, the opinions are mine alone as an interested citizen. I am a Naples airport tenant and past member of the airport authority.
