MIAMI — Miami-Dade police say a young boy was killed when a car hit him as he crossed the street with his mother and brother.
The family had almost crossed the road about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday when a 1990s-model Crown Victoria hit them. Police say boy died a short time later. His mother was taken to Homestead Hospital and the other child was taken to Miami Children's Hospital.
The Miami Herald reports the boys were about 7 and 8 years old. Witnesses told the newspaper the family had been shopping at a nearby supermarket. Groceries were strewn across the street after the accident.
Police say the trio was not crossing the street in the crosswalk.
Authorities say the driver of the car stayed at the scene and was in police custody.
