A disgruntled homeless man recently fired from his sister’s housecleaning business went on a crime spree, stealing jewelry and electronics from her clients, Collier County sheriff’s officials said.
Mark Tipps, 43, faces 17 felony charges after he was arrested Tuesday near the 9800 block of Collier Boulevard. The counts include five for grand theft, four for unarmed burglary, and two each for passing a forged check, dealing in stolen property and defrauding a pawn broker.
Tipps was working for a housecleaning business owned by his sister but was fired “a couple weeks ago,” according to an arrest report.
Tipps’ sister told deputies her brother knew the locations of keys for her clients, four of whom reported items stolen this month. They included a 90-year-old who found two checks had been written from his account to Tipps, an East Naples couple missing two televisions from their home and woman who found eight pieces of jewelry missing from her home.
Three of the victims lived in the Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club community.
Tipps’ sister and brother-in-law also reported Tipps pawned his niece’s bracelet inscribed with her name for $145, deputies said. Other jewelry was stolen from the family but isn’t listed in the report.
Tipps remains in jail pending bond. He’s listed as a fugitive from New York, wanted on burglary charges there.
Tipps told deputies he had been living at an East Naples motel.
