The Greater Marco Family YMCA has two major events during February.

Both have their beginnings as small affairs and now have grown to be exciting and anticipated by all interested in one or the other.

The first event is the 22nd Annual For the Love of the Y Tennis Tournament, Feb. 10-12, at the YMCA courts. Competition categories include Women’s and Men’s Singles and Doubles in levels 2.5 to 5.0 and Men’s and Women’s Mixed Doubles in levels 6.0 to 9.0.

Paul Barrus, Y tennis director, says he is happy to have all area tennis players enter the event and as such, he says the entry fees are reasonable for all to take part in this wonderful fundraiser.

Doubles entry fee is $50 for Marco Y members and $60 for community participants. Singles fee is $25 for Marco Y members and $30 for community participants. The fees include a tournament souvenir and players’ party. Players may only participate in two events and one of the doubles partners must pay for both at time of registration. You can apply by phone to 239-394-9622, ext. 200, with VISA or MasterCard, or stop by the Customer Service Desk. The entry deadline is Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. All players will be notified by the Y of match times and players must be available to play from 5 p.m. on Friday to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Friday matches will be played in the evening to accommodate work schedules, and the tournament director has the right to consolidate the draws. A match tie break will be used for third set play. For more information contact Barrus, tournament director at 239-394-9622, ext. 224, or email tennis@marcoislandymca.org.

The other major event is the 4th Annual Sweetheart Daddy-Daughter Dance, held on Friday, Feb. 10. The Daddy-Daughter Dance also started as a small affair at the Dottie Weiner Pavilion. It quickly out grew the area and was brought into the decorated gym in its third year. Also, the dress code changed to a more semi-formal prom-like event, with dads in suits and ties and the little girls in their party dresses, with flowers. The evening consists of music by DJ Steve Reynolds, appetizers, games and free portraits taken between 6:30 and 7 p.m., with the dance going to 8 p.m.

The event is open to daughters, ages 3-12 and daddy. The fee in advance up to 6 p.m., Feb. 9, is $15 a couple and $5 each additional daughter.

If you pay at the door, or on the day of the event it’s $25 a couple and $5 each additional daughter. For more information contact Stephanie Pepper at 239-394-9622, ext. 203, or email Stephanie@marcoislandymca.org. Register at the Customer Service Desk, or by phone at 239-394-9622, ext. 200, with VISA or MasterCard.
